What is urgent care and how does it work?
Urgent care centers are designed to treat those who need attention quickly but donʼt require an emergency room visit. Urgent care centers do not require appointments and are generally open longer hours than a primary care physicianʼs office. For instance, all Steel Valley Express Care centers are Monday – Saturday from 8am-8pm, Sundays 8am-4pm.
What can Steel Valley Express Care treat?
Generally, they can treat everyday injuries and illnesses. Steel Valley Express Care can treat everything from colds, flu and cuts to fractures, sprains and some dislocations. We provide immunizations, sports physicals, EKGs and X-rays. We perform minor surgical procedures, such as stitches. We also administer IV fluids and labs.
When should I go to Steel Valley Express Care instead of the Emergency Room?
Life-threatening conditions require a costly trip to the ER. For everything else, there’s urgent care. A 2009 Merritt Hawkins study showed the average wait time for an appointment with a primary care physician was over 20 days. According to a 2010 report from Press Ganey, the average ER visit lasts over 4 hours. A visit to Steel Valley Express Care doesn’t require an appointment and typically lasts under an hour.
How long is the typical waiting time?
Patients are seen on a walk-in basis and are in and out of the door within an hour. You can shorten your wait time by downloading and filling out the Patient Forms before your visit.
Do I need an appointment for Steel Valley Express care?
No appointments are necessary. Walk right in during normal business hours.
Do you provide x-rays at your facility?

What about follow-up care?
Steel Valley Express Care follows up with every patient within three days of his/her visit. At your request, we’re happy to follow up with your primary care physician to ensure that you get the care you need on an ongoing basis.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept most insurances, cash, credit or debit cards as payment.
Is Steel Valley Express Care open on holidays?
We are only closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and July 4th.
Will my primary care physician know that I was at Steel Valley Express Care?
Yes, Steel Valley Express Care supports your primary care physician in caring for your medical needs. Following your visit, we will send a report of your visit to your physician, upon your request.

Why is my co-pay higher for urgent care?
Urgent Care co-pays are traditionally higher than co-pays in primary care. This is because the cost of being seen in an urgent care facility is typically greater than the cost of being seen in primary care. Urgent care centers are usually open every day of the week and usually have extended hours. Urgent care centers also must be properly equipped to manage any medical emergency. These types of emergencies happen much more frequently in urgent care than in a primary care setting.
